I have attended two Dance of Awareness classes and have found both to be quite transformative. Both
classes offered an opportunity to explore movement and express myself freely. While the structure of the
Dance of Awareness Cycle stayed the same, I felt an improvement in my confidence and ability to dance
with other participants the second time. Experiencing this brought me great comfort. We don't always
realise how far we have come on our journey until we experience something like this. Thank you Lucy!

What To Expect
We will begin with a warm-up, followed by an opening circle and a brief introduction to Dance of
Awareness   (DoA). Over the course of the Wave, we will move our way to music through the 6 phases of
the Dance of Awareness cycle - Sensing, Grounding, Expressing, Releasing, Connecting and
Completing.
There will be some structure and guidance introducing some of the key themes
underpinning DoA but mainly this is an opportunity to come home to your body and let your dance
unfold.

Practicalities
These sessions are suitable for all adults over 18 years of age. No previous experience of dance or
embodied movement is required. There are no steps to learn and you are encouraged to move in a way
that feels right for you. All abilities are welcome. Access to the centre is on on one level and there is a
disabled toilet. Please wear clothing that you are comfortable to move in. Dance barefoot or in indoor
shoes. Bring water to drink. The room has underfloor heating but it is recommended you bring a blanket
for still times in the session. There is limited parking in front of the centre and Findhorn village can get
very busy at times so please leave enough time to find a parking place.

What Is Dance of Awareness?
Dance of Awareness   (DoA) is a new approach to working with movement, dance and awareness. It has five main streams of influence: Post-Reichian body psychotherapy; Five Rhythms dance; Authentic Movement; Dance Movement Psychotherapy; and the experiential exploration of Awareness itself. It was developed by body psychotherapists, Tim Brown and Clare Osbond, who run the Brighton School of Embodied Therapy. Set to music, the Dance of Awareness cycle - Sensing, Grounding, Expressing, Releasing, Connecting and Completing - follows an energetic wave, charging and discharging over the course of a session. Throughout the process there is strong emphasis on body awareness which provides the ground for our experience. The cycle is designed to evoke childhood stages of development and gives the mover the opportunity to explore their formative years of early development and discover new patterns of moving and relating.

About Lucy
I am a relational body psychotherapist and have been working with individuals and groups for over 25
years. I have an MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy and have done extensive further
training in Somatic Trauma Therapy and Embodied Relational Therapy which emerged from Reichian
body work and body-centred psychotherapy. I am a full member of the European Association of Body
Psychotherapy (EABP). When I discovered Dance of Awareness,  I immediately knew I’d found a
home for myself: it brings together two things I feel passionately about, conscious dance and body
psychotherapy, and in 2017 I qualified as a licensed facilitator. Most recently, I became a certified
breathwork practitioner and run regular groups in Conscious Connected Breathwork in Findhorn.
